You know you've made it when people want to name a building after you. Dave Chappelle's old high school, Duke Ellington High School wanted to rename their theater after the comedian. Remember, this is the same school that when Dave stopped by after his Netflix comedy special, there were students who weren't so welcoming, calling Dave out for his jokes. There were some students who didn't want the performance theater named after Dave after his comedy special. According to TMZ, Dave challenged his supporters and opponents to raise money for the school and if the opponents raise more money, he would forego the honor of having the building named after him. However, his supporters raised more money. So it would seem like he'd get the honor of having his name on the theater, but he turned the gesture down. During a ceremony to rename the theater, Dave announced he wasn't putting his name on the high school's theater, but decided it should be called the Theater for Artistic Freedom and Expression. He felt the backlash from the students sincerely hurt him.
