However, mumps is an issue some Temple University students have to worry about as they get ready for their spring break. According to Philly.com, it was reported at least four students have verified cases of the mumps as of Thursday night, but there could be more cases. The school sent notifications out to their students and faculty and staff. The mumps are contagious through saliva but the school's notification advises to "self-isolate and try to avoid travel and limit contact" with other people "for 5 days from the onset of the symptoms." And also note that people with the mumps are considered infectious for a few days before swelling begins. So as you begin your spring break, definitely take care of yourselves. The incubation period is 12 to 15 days. Symptoms often appear appear 16 to 18 after exposure.
