Love insurance … Back in 2016, a woman in China named Wu bought a quirky “love insurance” policy as a gift for her boyfriend, Wang. For just 199 yuan (about $28), the policy promised either roses, a ring, or cash if they tied the knot within a set time. The couple didn’t think much of it — Wang even joked she must’ve been scammed — until they actually got married in October 2025, after 10 years together. After the wedding they submitted their certificate and opted for the cash payout of 10,000 yuan (around $1,400), rather than 10,000 roses. Chinese regulators have since banned “love insurance,” but because Wu bought hers in 2016, she gets to cash in.
