The pandemic isn't going anywhere anytime soon. The news recently reported the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 is now in all 50 states and there has been a surge in numbers of people testing positive for COVID. While there are boosters available and kids 5 and up can get the vaccine, companies are still trying to make sure they have the next best option available. Pfizer had been working on a COVID pill and it has been approved by the FDA as of Wednesday. According to NBC News, the new pill from Pfizer, called Paxlovid, will be prescribed for use in adults and children ages 12 and up with mild to moderate Covid who are at risk for severe disease or hospitalization. The pill is not to replace the vaccine and it was found to be 89% effective for COVID. A full course of Pfizer's treatment is 30 pills and the treatment needs to be taken within 5 days of the first symptoms in order for it to be effective. Don't expect to get your hands on it the way you could with the vaccines but the initial supply of the pills will be limited.
