Netflix Will Not Remove Dave Chappelle Comedy Special

People are going crazy and talking about Dave Chappelle's latest comedy special on Netflix, The Closer. Dave is a legendary comedian but some people feel offended by his jokes. He speaks about the transgender community and people were not happy about the things he spoke of. Dave even called himself transphobic during his special but also explain some things that people, clearly didn't listen to, about the LGBTQ community. Did you watch the special and actually listen to things he said? Well some of the LGBTQ community wanted Netflix to remove the special. Well, Netflix's CEO is siding with Dave. According to The Jasmine Brand, Netflix's CEO Ted Serandos said, "Chappelle is one of the most popular stand-up comedians today, and we have a long standing deal with him. His last special “Sticks & Stones,” also controversial, is our most watched., stickiest and most award winning stand-up special to date. As with our other talent, we work hard to support their creative freedom – even though this means there will always be content on Netflix some people believe is harmful, like “Cuties,” “365 Days,” “13 Reasons Why” or “My Unorthodox Life.”” He explained, "Several of you have also asked where we draw the line on hate. We don’t allow titles Netflix that are designed to incite hate or violence, and we don’t believe The Closer crosses that line. I recognize, however, that distinguishing between commentary and harm is hard, especially with stand-up comedy which exists to push boundaries. Some people find the art of stand-up to be mean-spirited but our members enjoy it, and it’s an important part of our content offering." As for what Dave things about the backlash, during a live performance and screening of a new untitled documentary at the Hollywood Bowl, he said , “If this is what being canceled is like, I love it." My thing is, he is a comedian. Expect to be offended and to laugh, but also hear the point he was trying to make.
