Usher-Hosted Show, "The Activist" Has Turned into a Documentary

Remember just last week, I mentioned there would be a new competition series called "The Activist." The show would be hosted by Usher, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas and Julianne Hough. The show would feature activists basically battling it out to see who has the better organization. It's ridiculous and wrong on so many levels. Well, Global Citizen, one of the producing partners, realize they made a huge mistake after many people expressed their feelings over this show. Instead of making people compete, just give activists money to go towards their cause, but of course someone, a network, would try to monetize off of this. Activism shouldn't be treated as a competition. Well that series won't happen as a show anymore. According to Variety, the series will now become a one-time documentary special instead of a five-episode competition series. I guess no one at the round table told the companies to do better. Well, in a joint statement, CBS, Global Citizen and Live Nation announced the format switch, saying: “'The Activist’ was designed to show a wide audience the passion, long hours, and ingenuity that activists put into changing the world, hopefully inspiring others to do the same. However, it has become apparent the format of the show as announced distracts from the vital work these incredible activists do in their communities every day. The push for global change is not a competition and requires a global effort." They continued to say, “As a result, we are changing the format to remove the competitive element and reimagining the concept into a primetime documentary special." The statement says the documentary will showcase the work of 6 activists, who will each be awarded a cash grant for the organization of their choice."
