Judge Dismisses "When They See Us" Defamation Case

Last week, it was announced that former prosecutor Linda Fairstein sued Ava DuVernay and Netflix over her character portrayal in the Netflix series. This case is still pending, however, Ava won a case. John E. Reid and Associates sued Ava and Netflix back in October over their trademark interrogation technique and how the technique was depicted in the series. A judge tossed that defamation case because according to Deadline, a judge tossed the case involving the interrogation scene. Apparently, the judge sited, "Because the First Amendment protects non-factual assertions (and because neither defendants Ava DuVernay nor Array Alliance Inc. has sufficient minimum contacts with the State of Illinois to justify haling them into court here), Reid’s complaint is dismissed." That was just that suit because when Linda Fairstein filed her lawsuit, it was just last week.
