Philly’s Power 99 is celebrating Black History Month by shouting out some of our favorite sons and daughters throughout the month of February with The Power List. Some of the biggest names in the world of music, entertainment, politics and the arts that hail from Philly or the surrounding Tri-State area.

Hailing from North Philadelphia and best known for his stint in the iconic Philly clique, ‘State Property’, Freeway has established himself as one of the most recognized and a true Philly rap legend.Discovered while doing various shows in around Philly by Beanie Sigel, Freeway was then brought to the attention of Dame Dash and Jay-Z who then signed him to Roc A Fella Records. His debut release, ‘Philadelphia Freeway’ is considered a hip hop classic which spawned the smash singles, ‘Flipside’ and ‘What We Do’.Shortly afterwards came his iconic verse on State Property’s ‘Roc Da Mic’, which firmly established Freeway as a true force in the game.Free is respected by Young and Old in Philly, and after some very public health battles, has been chosen as an Official Ambassador for the National Kidney Foundation.
