Philly’s Power 99 is celebrating Black History Month by shouting out some of our favorite sons and daughters throughout the month of February with The Power List. Some of the biggest names in the world of music, entertainment, politics and the arts that hail from Philly or the surrounding Tri-State area.

The Roots are a hip hop group, formed in 1987 by Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Roots are known for a jazzy and eclectic approach to hip-hop, featuring live musical instruments. They released 10 studio albums, two EPs, and two collaboration albums. The Roots have also broken major records in the music world naming them "Hip-hop's first legitimate band.The Roots remain the in studio house band for NBC’s, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
