Bring Your Own Bags; Plastic Bags Banned in Philly

We hear so much of protect the planet and reduce the carbon footprint. Basically, there is trash everywhere and one way to alleviate that is plastic. If you've been shopping in Philly, then you may have already gotten the warning that plastic bags would be ending and you would have to either bring in your own bag, or carry all of your items from the stores in your hands. Well Philly's plastic ban if officially in effect as of today, April 1. The city pretty much gave a 9-month warning period, after City Council had been working to ban plastic bags for a long time now. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, under the law, all single-use plastic bags are banned, you know, those thing bags that you would get for your take out foods. But before you start fussing, there are some plastic bags are that still allowed, which, are the thicker bags that are intended to be reusable. But just know, some paper bags may also be banned. So now you're trying to figure out what you should do? Well, bring your own bags, the reusable bags, which, most of the grocery stores sell. And if you're wondering will it be all businesses with this ban, the answer is yes. All Philly retailers that offer bags at check out, or use them to deliver their products, must adhere to the law. If the business doesn't adhere to the ban, they could face a fine. But also, there are a few exemptions, like your medical prescription bags, or even bags for unwrapped foods and so forth. So the next time you head to that store, make sure you BYOB.
