Dwayne Wade continues to offer strong support to his transgender daughter Zaya, who's legally changing her name -- despite the strong objections of her biological mother. The NBA legend hit Instagram to offer a sharp response to Siovaughan Funches-Wade, who filed a legal objection to Zaya's name-change petition this past week. Wade noted that he had been given sole custody of the couple's children more than a decade ago, and said that Siovaughan had made "no effort" to get in touch with Zaya. In a lengthy post, Wade wrote "While none of us are surprised by Siohvaughn's attempt to fight Zaya's identity and her unwavering attempt to drag my name through the mud, I'm very disappointed that she continuously find[s] ways of centering herself and HER needs, without regard to her children." He went on to add " This is a kid who has maintained a 4.0 GPA in honors classes while navigating all this unsolicited and harmful attention and debates about her gender and sexuality from those who are committed to not listening to her, much less even knowing her." Zaya came out as transgender in 2020, and has received full support from her father and his wife Gabrielle Union.
