- Ashanti recently opened up about feeling like an outsider because of her African name.
- Ashanti said, "Growing up having a very unique name, there were moments. I remember there was circle time, and the teacher would call out names. The kids would go, 'Why doesnât her name sound like this or that?'"
- She continued, "I want this to resonate with kids who donât necessarily have a unique name, so they know not to make fun of a person that has a unique name and to know itâs okay if that name doesnât sound familiar to you. Donât make fun of it. Embrace it."
- This was the inspiration behind her new children's book called My Name Is A Story.
