Ahmaud Arbery's Mother 'Upset' Over Plea Deal

  • Ahmaud Arbery's mother is 'upset' over a plea deal offered to two of the men convicted of murdering her son.
  • After it was reported that Greg and Travis McMichael had accepted a plea deal on federal hate crime charges, Wanda Cooper-Jones told the New York Times that prosecutors "went behind my back" to offer the deal - claiming she was asked if she approved of the deal and said no.
  • Cooper-Jones says she wants the hate crime case to go to trial to "firmly establish that the men had been motivated by racism", per NYT. 
  • She added "I'm totally, totally upset. My anxiety is over the roof."
  • The McMichaels, along with neighbor William 'Roddie' Bryan, were all sentenced to life in prison on murder charges earlier this month.
