The daughter of civil rights leader Malcolm X, Malikah Shabazz, 56, was found dead in her Brooklyn apartment around 5 PM on Monday (November 22). Shabazzâs death isnât considered to be suspicious, however, the cause of death hasnât been determined. Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, were born months after the assassination of their father in 1965. Malcolm and Betty Shabazz had four other daughters, Malikah and Malaak are the youngest. Shabazzâs death comes a few days after her fatherâs killers had been exonerated. A 22-month investigation conducted by the Manhatten District Attorneyâs office and the Innocence Project found that evidence was withheld from the original investigation by prosecutors, the FBI, and the New York Police Department that wouldâve cleared Muhammad A. Aziz and Khalil Islam of Malcolm Xâs murder. Martin Luther Kingâs daughter, Bernice, tweeted on Monday writing âââIâm deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X. Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak, when Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah.â
