- Tuesday's election made history in New York, where Democrats Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres have become the first openly gay Black men elected to Congress.
- Jones, 33, defeated Republican Maureen McArdle Schulman for the gig, which will see him replace retiring Representative Nita Lowey. Torres, 32, beat Republican Patrick Delices to replace retiring Bronx Representative Jose Serrano.
- "It’s overwhelming," Torres says. "I never thought as a poor kid from the Bronx that I would embark on a journey that would take me from public housing in the Bronx to the House of Representatives."
