- Organizers of the Essence Festival, held in New Orleans, have moved the festival to 2021 amid the spread of the coronavirus.
- This move comes after the mayor of New Orleans suggested that all major summer festivals be moved to next year, instead of postponing them for later this year.
- The organization’s statement says,While we initially hoped that a reschedule from our July 2020 dates to later in the fall would be feasible, current information and projections by public health officials and agencies have made it increasingly clear that any large-scale events this year could potentially and unnecessarily put attendees and surrounding communities at risk.
- The organization will honor this year’s tickets at next year's festival. However, people will be able to receive refunds if they have already purchased tickets for 2020.
