Polo designer Ralph Lauren has apologized to the black fraternity Phi Beta Sigma for appropriating one of the frat's symbols on a pair of pants that retailed for $300. The pants were chinos and featured a symbol of the fraternity that was founded in 1914 at Howard University. Lauren said that using the symbol was an "oversight" and is making sure the mistake won't happen again. There's no word on whether or not Phi Beta Sigma plans to take legal action against Ralph Lauren. The designer now joins other high end brands like Gucci and Burberry who have been found guilty of appropriation. The use of the lettering was first reported by website Watch the Yard and prompted a Change.org petition this month demanding that the company "do the right thing and recall, destroy and publicly apologize for trying to capitalize off of black culture."
