Jay-Z's New Partnership With The NFL Has Made Its First Move

Last month, it was announced that Jay-Z's Roc Nation and the NFL teamed up to help bring positive change, and now the first move associated with that partnership has surfaced. According to reports, Jay Z will launch a new apparel line called “Inspire Change,” and he’ll also put on a series of concerts titled “Songs of the Season. Proceeds from the merchandise will be used to fund Inspire Change programs across the United States that focus on “economic empowerment, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform.” In addition, Roc Nation artists Meek Mill and Megan Trainor will perform a free NFL Kickoff concert in Chicago on Sept. 5. Colin Kaepernick tweeted about capitalism and the oppression of Black people hours after the new program was announced. Kaepernick shared on Twitter Friday a highlighted paragraph from Robert L. Allen’s 1969 book “Black Awakening in Capitalist America” that discusses the role of capitalism in the oppression of Black communities. ″Reading always gives me clarity,” Kaepernick wrote. He then shared the following quote from the book: “What [they] seek is not an end to oppression, but the transfer of the oppressive apparatus into their own hands.”
