Big Freedia has canceled her upcoming weekend shows after her brother was shot and killed in New Orleans on Wednesday night (Jan. 24)
The younger brother of famed New Orleans bounce performer and reality television star Big Freedia was shot in the head Wednesday night in Central City, police said.
Clearly distraught, the local performer, whose given name is Freddie Ross Jr., took to social media early Thursday to remember her 35-year-old brother Adam Ross.
The Coroner's Office also identified Adam Ross as the victim of the shooting, which took place shortly before 10 p.m. in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Police said they found Ross lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head. He died at the scene.
The family's attorney released a statement Thursday attributed to the singer:
"My younger brother, Adam Ross, was fatally shot last night in a senseless act of violence in New Orleans. As the magnitude of this situation sinks in, I am canceling any shows this weekend. Thank you for understanding this very difficult time for me and my family. We are truly heartbroken."
