Cynthia Erivo has been cast to play iconic abolitionist Harriet Tubman in upcoming biopic Harriet, Deadline reports. The film will chronicle Tubman's extraordinary life as she escaped slavery in the South before leading hundreds of others to safety along a network of safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.Erivo starred in the Broadway production of The Color Purple, which earned her a Tony for leading actress. She is also up for the Best Musical Theater Album Grammy this weekend and is set to perform the Memoriam tribute with John Legend.
