"Empire" has been renewed for a sixth season, but there are no plans for Jussie Smollett's character to return.“By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to ‘Empire,'” Fox Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Television said in a statement. Smollett was spotted vacationing in Hawaii last month after he had 16 felony disorderly conduct charges dropped against him in Chicago for his alleged role in a hate-crime scandal. Smollett, who has maintained his innocence, previously pleaded not guilty to all 16 counts against him.
