City Council passed a resolution Thursday banning R. Kelly from performing in Philadelphia, in light of the allegations of rape and child pornography against him. Council-member Helen Gym announced that the Mute R. Kelly resolution had passed Thursday afternoon on Twitter. “We reject a system that silences black women and accepts black pain. We believe survivors. R. Kelly is not welcome in Philadelphia,” the statement read. “This resolution is about fundamentally stating a public declaration that R. Kelly and sexual predators like him don’t belong in a public sphere, with public support,” Gym said via CBS Philly . “This symbolic act of solidarity puts all sexual predators on notice.”
