A packed school bus was ripped apart after it collided with a dump truck, leaving one student and a teacher dead Thursday, officials said.

 

Dozens more were reported injured in the Morris County, New Jersey crash.Harrowing images from the scene show officials tending to school children on the side of Route 80 near Hackettstown.

 

Emergency vehicles surrounded the rolled-over bus, whose undercarriage, including its wheels, was completely sheared off. Its front cab was mangled and separated from the body of the bus.

 

The Paramus Board of Education-owned bus was shuttling East Brook Middle School students to Waterloo Village for a field trip, according to northjersey.com. The restored historic site features a working mill complex, general store, blacksmith shop and historic houses, according to the New Jersey department of parks and forests.

 

New Jersey State Police said it was investigating a "serious MVA westbound on I-80 @ MP 25 in Mount Olive Twp, Morris County involving a school bus and a dump truck."

 

Multiple people suffered serious injuries, New Jersey State Police Tpr. Alejandro Goez told the Daily News. More information will be released this afternoon, he said. -(Megan Cerullo, NY Daily News)
