I'm Fighting: Uber Passenger Charged $14,000 For 20 Minute Drive

If this happened to me, I'm not sure what I would do.

An Uber passenger was flabbergasted after being charged $14,000 for a 20 minute ride.

A Toronto man who took an Uber about five miles was charged 18,518.50 Canadian dollars — which is about $14,401.25 U.S. dollars, according to a screenshot of the taxi service bill posted to social media.

An estimate made through the car service's app says that an UberX ride for the user's exact trip should have cost somewhere between $12 and $16. Uber stood behind the charge at first.

But a friend of the rider, Emily Kennard, reached out to Uber customer support on behalf of her price-gouged pal and, finally, got a more appropriate response and a refund.

"There was an error and we have provided a full refund,” an Uber spokeswoman told the Daily News. “We sincerely apologize to this rider for his experience. -(Ariel Scotti, NY Daily News)
