We know our justice system can be ass backwards sometimes, but this is just cruel. A man accused with raping a 12 year old girl and impregnating her has been given joint custody of the child!
Christopher Mirasolo was granted shared time with the 8-year-old daughter of the woman that he attacked nine years ago as a preteen last week, attorney Rebecca Kiessling said.
The victim was with her older sister went for a ride with Mirasolo before allegedly being kidnapped and kept in a vacant house for two days, the Detroit News first reported.
Mirasolo, now 27, was charged with rape but pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct and served less than a year in jail, with Kiessling saying he later reoffended against another teenage girl and served four more years.
The verdict for Mirasolo’s custody reportedly included adding his name to the child’s birth certificate and disclosing his victim’s address.
Kiessling posted on Facebook that she is pushing for protection under the Rape Survivor Child Custody Act, which limits the ability of rapists to claim custody of children that result from crimes. -(Christopher Brennan, NY Daily News)
