Sad: College Football Player Dies After Injuring Neck During Game I love some football, but this is the ugly side of the game. With all of the scientific discoveries about the after effects of the game as well as instances like this, I don't blame people who don't want their children to even start playing football.A 19-year-old Division II football player has died from a neck injury he suffered after making a tackle in a game Saturday.
Midwestern State cornerback Robert Grays was hurt with three and half minutes left in the Mustangs' game against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Trey Reed, Midwestern State athletics department spokesman, told ESPN that Grays was hospitalized in Wichita Falls, Texas on Saturday night before being flown to a hospital in Houston, where he died Tuesday.
School President Suzanna Shipley released a statement Wednesday, expressing her condolences following the loss of Grays.
"Robert touched many lives while attending the university, but perhaps he will be remembered best for his smile. He was an inspiration on and off the field to those around him, and he will be remembered with love and affection by his friends, classmates, coaches, and teammates," Shipley said. -(Brett Bodner, NY Daily News)
RIP to this young man!
