A 6 year old boy who was about to start first grade was shot and killed in his house by his own brother who was trying to scare him with a gun .
A Mississippi teen will appear in court next week after fatally shooting his 6-year-old brother as the child played video games, authorities say.
Albert Deonte Craft III, 16, told cops he pointed a .38-caliber handgun at Zaylan Sparkman on Friday to scare him, according to the Sun Herald. Craft says he pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire. He pulled the trigger again, and the child was struck in the stomach.
Zaylan was taken to Memorial Hospital in critical condition but later passed away.
Craft illegally came into possession of the handgun, according to Gulfport police Chief Leonard Papania. The teen has been charged with manslaughter.
"She lost two children, not just one," Jantail Thomas, who is helping to organize the tribute, told WLOX, referring to their mother.
Thomas is hoping to increase awareness to gun violence. She recalled a 5-year-old child, Janaya Thompson, who had been killed three years ago.
"Children don't know what they're doing with guns," she told the station. "They just see a gun and think they're going to shoot it. They don't know the outcome of a gun until it's too late."
The walk in Gulfport is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, according to WLOX. Zaylan's funeral will take place the following day at Olivet Baptist Church. -(NY Daily News)
