Woman Arrested For Locking Kids In Trunk While She Shopped At Wal-Mart
How stupid can someone be?
A Utah woman decided that instead of leaving her kids in the back seat, she would lock them in the trunk so no one would report her. She guessed wrong and is now dealing with the consequences.
Tori Castillo, 39, has been accused of child abuse after allegedly leaving the children, ages 2 and 5, in the trunk of her vehicle, according to Good 4 Utah. The incident occurred outside the big-box store in Riverdale, Utah, about 35 miles north of Salt Lake City.
"I was shocked, I was shaken and I was mad," said Charity Maw, who was in the parking lot and said she heard the sound of children knocking against the inside of the trunk.
Witnesses say Castillo placed her children in the windowless trunk of a Chevrolet sedan.
“It’s never right to lock a child inside of a vehicle, let alone a trunk of a vehicle. Obviously there’s a lot of things that could go wrong,” said Lt. Casey Warren of the Riverdale Police, speaking to Good 4 Utah.
Maw said that a woman familiar with the inner workings of the trunk — and an interior release latch — told the children how to free themselves.Maw said that upon seeing the children, they were scared and crying, Good 4 Utah reported.
Castillo was arrested and booked at the Weber County Jail. The children were released to their father. The Department of Child and Family Services is also investigating. -(NY Daily News)
