Wrong: Teenager Denied Double Lung Transplant Because He Smoked Weed Once

People have to really start understanding that weed is far from the worst thing a person can do in this world.

Riley Hancey, a 19 year old from Utah, was denied a life saving double lung replacement in Philadelphia because he smoked weed with some friends on Thanksgiving of last year. His doctor told him he would have to get his "affairs in order" before she performed any operation on him.

"Riley did smoke marijuana on Thanksgiving night with his friends," Mark Hancey told KSL. "It's not like he's a smoker for 30 years and (had) deteriorating lungs because of that."The teen had started feeling ill on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, according to BuzzFeed News."She was willing to let him die over testing positive for marijuana. This is what shocked me," Mark Hancey told BuzzFeed, referring to the doctor. In a statement to the station, the hospital noted that "we do not transplant organs in patients with active alcohol, tobacco or illicit drug use or dependencies until these issues are addressed, as these substances are contraindicated for a transplant." With rare exceptions, marijuana use is illegal in Utah. -(NY Daily News)

Luckily, another hospital in Philly volunteered to do the surgery after hearing his story.
