SMH: Caretakers Arrested After CPS Finds 10 Year Old Girl Living In A Cage!
Isn't the state supposed to check people out thoroughly before they give them kids to take care of?
Tennessee officials were shocked when they reported to the home of Mickey Sparks and Patricia Laws, two caretakers of foster children. In what they call a welfare check, the officials found a 10 year old girl living in a cage that was filled with urine and feces.
When deputies entered a bedroom, they discovered a locked wooden cage with a mattress and a child inside. The cage smelled of urine and feces, officials said.
The girl and three other children were removed from the home by the Department of Children’s Services.
Laws told deputies that the Department of Children’s Services approved the use of the cage, court documents obtained by the Johnson City Press showed.
Deputy Jared Taylor checked in with a Child Protective Services supervisor who confirmed the agency had not approved such action, documents read.
Sparks and Laws were each charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. They were booked at Washington County Detention Center on $50,000 bond. -(NY Daily News)
