California Gov. Signs New Law to Ban The Use of Rap Lyrics in Court Cases

I am sure a lot of rappers wish they had their trials over in California right about now. A lot of rappers talk about different things in their songs, which may include shooting people robbing, selling drugs or every other thing. And sometimes, those lyrics will get them in trouble when they get arrested. Take for instance Gunna and Young Thug. Their lyrics are not helping their current RICO case. California's Governor Gavin Newsome signed a new law that would ban rap lyrics from being used in court cases. According to Hip Hop Wired, he signed the Decriminalizing Artistic Expression Act into law, also known as AB 2799. The exceptions to using the lyrics would be if the state could prove that the lyrics were created in close proximity to the time of the crime, contains details of the crime that aren’t publicly available, or bears a high amount of similarity to the crime. Basically, it's a way of letting the artists be creative. This will also include other media like poetry, film and more.
