Swim Caps For Black Hair Gets Approved for Olympics

Black people are getting into sports that we haven't always been a part of. And although you hate to hear the lies about Black people don't go swimming because of our hair, there are swim caps. However, not all swim caps are made equal. But there are very few you may be able to find to protect Black hair. One of those is the Soul Cap. It has just been approved for use at the Olympics. It was banned last year by FINA, the International Swimming Federation, claiming that athletes competing at the world stage have "never used, neither require to use, caps of such size and configuration." Basically they weren't used to Black people swimming. This ban sparked some global conversations about about inclusivity and existing barriers within the world of competitive swimming, according to NPR. After FINA had a chance to review and discuss the cap design, with Soul Cap creators, they had a change of heart so water sports could be inclusive for all.
