How many of you are still carrying cash when you travel and roll through the tolls? I know I've had an E-Z Pass for some years now and you have to admit, the passes are very helpful and pretty fast. Whenever you roll up to those toll booths, you get tired of looking for some dollars or change. Trust me, I got stuck years ago in Miami and started tossing in pennies. But soon, looking for some money will be obsolete. The Inquirer reports the toll booths will be cashless by 2021. Yes, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is done with four years of testing and will move full speed ahead with a $129 million project to become a completely cashless toll system by the fall of 2021. But, the agency expects to continue using toll booths at some exit ramps across the state until 2026. Those booths will record E-Z Pass transponder signals or take license-plate photographs so the agency can mail bills to drivers until the agency finishes installing 43 overhead gantries on the main line and Northeast Extension in three phases over the next six years. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of people will lose jobs, but they will have the opportunity to move into other turnpike jobs or take classes at the turnpike's expense to begin a new career. So if you don't have one, you may need to jump on those E-Z Passes now.
