Oprah Winfrey Donates $13 Million to HBCU, Morehouse College

You know I love to see HBCU's grow and be featured in the news with amazing stories. Of course over the weekend in Atlanta, Oprah Winfrey was in town to witness her dear friend, Tyler Perry open his studios. I guess she figured while in Atlanta, let's make some people happy. According to AJC, Oprah decided to make a $13 million donation to Morehouse College. The crazy thing is that she topped her $12 million donation from 30 years ago to the school. In all, her $25 million donation is the largest endowment made to the school. As far as that money, it will go solely to the Oprah Winfrey Scholars Program that was created with her gift in 1989. About 600 students have been educated through the program. Her donation comes on the heels of the school making an announcement about several budget cuts. Look, these HBCU's can definitely use help. On top of that, Morehouse seems to be getting a lot between Oprah's donation and billionaire technology investor and philanthropist Robert F. Smith saying he would pay for the graduating seniors' debt back in May, that's a good gift.
