Congratulations are definitely in order for Tyler Perry. Over the weekend, black excellence stepped out dressed to impress for the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios. It was a gala and most of the black actors in Hollywood all graced his grand opening in Atlanta. Tyler is now the first African American actor/director/writer/producer to own a studio outright with no partners or corporate backing. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Tyler just made history! There was everyone there from his dear friend Oprah Winfrey to others like Viola Davis, Ava DuVernay, Beyonce, Denzel Washington and many others! By the way, the Tyler Perry Studios were built on land that was once a confederate army base. Clearly, this is a very symbolic move for Tyler and his new studios. But the man has worked hard for it and wants to help others and put actors out there to be exposed so everyone can see their talents. You can't be mad at that. According to Hollywood Reporter, Tyler told his guests, "If I can build studios on this land that was once a confederate army base... We all get to stand here equally — black, white, whatever — this is the American dream." Now this event wasn't just a gala, but guests also had a tour of the studios and 12 soundstages, which, Tyler named after acting greats such as Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Will Smith, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Spike Lee, Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis and Diahann Carroll. All guests were given a tour of the 330-acre studio. Then of course, it was a party to celebrate this grand event!
