Lil Wayne plans to step up to the mic every Sunday to drop some knowledge on football fans everywhere.
The loyal Green Bay Packers fan has been recruited by the NFL Network to appear as a weekly guest on the "NFL GameDay Morning" show. According to a press release the NFL shared on Monday, November 11, Wayne will join the extensive GameDay family including Rich Eisen, Kurt Warner, Ian Rapoport, Cynthia Frelund, Colleen Wolfe and others. The avid sports fan will begin his new role this Sunday, November 17 at 9 a.m. and appear on the show for the rest of the season.
The official announcement was made during halftime at the New York Giants versus Carolina Panthers game in Munich earlier this week. The NFL Network and the show expressed their excitement about having Weezy join the family and shared a classic clip of him running out onto the field with his favorite team.
This isn't the first time Wayne has gone from rapper to sportscaster. His contributions to sports networks like ESPN date back to 2009 when he appeared on shows like "Around The Horn." He also made the theme song for Skip Bayless' Fox Sports 1 show "Undisputed" in 2016 and appeared on the program several times throughout its run. Wayne also dropped his theme song for the Packers "Green & Yellow" in 2021.
Lil Wayne's new role at the NFL Network comes a few weeks after he was snubbed by the league. Weezy previously said he felt "hurt" when the NFL and Roc Nation chose Kendrick Lamar as the headliner for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans over him. He spoke about the snub during his set at Lil Weezyana Fest in his hometown.
"I worked my ass off to get that f**king position," Weezy said. "It was ripped away from me, but this muthaf**kin' moment right here, they can’t take that."
