Amanda Seales Gets Backlash Over Portraying AKA in "Insecure" and Responds

Issa Rae's final season of Insecure has finally premiered on HBO this past Sunday. I'm happy about the return but sad this will be the final season. But already, people are talking about the first episode. Actually, people are upset. On the show, actress Amanda Seales, who stars as the character, Tiffany, portrays a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority on the show. People, and many of them are from sororities, aren't cool with her wearing the letters on the show, since Amanda isn't really an AKA. But it's just a role, right? When someone tweeted about the letters, even Issa Rae responded with a joke a out it. The person tweeted, "Okay so hold up. This girl is not a Sorror and had my SHIELD on her body?! @IssaRae @insecurhbo please do not do that again. That’s wildly disrespectful! Well, Issa, responded with, "Oh shit, let me tell [HBO] to delete the one of the upcoming episodes then, hold on." Did you find it disrespectful, considering, there was no ill-intent with Amanda's character wearing the letters. On top of that, think about this, many people portray police, lawyers, soldiers and so forth, in movies and shows and that's never an issue. By the way, Amanda did respond to the questions about her being an AKA and the backlash. Amanda said, “Tiffany is a sorror. Tiffany is acharacter on a tv show. I didn’t write the character, I played the character. I am not a sorror. I’m an actress and I’m playing a character on a TV show." Amanda posted her response in her Instagram stories.
