Trial Date Set For R. Kelly's Federal Child Pornography Case In Chicago

  • R. Kelly will face federal child pornography charges in Chicago, August 1st, 2022. A judge set the hearing on Wednesday (October 21st) which comes three weeks after a Brooklyn court convicted the disgraced singer for a seperate racketeering case.
  • Steve Greenberg, who also represented Kelly in the Brooklyn case will represent him in the Chicago case.
  • “The Chicago case, unfortunately for Robert, is far more serious,”Greenberg said.“Because it involves child pornography charges and charges that he obstructed justice in his earlier trial from, from the 2000s which was in state court here. The Chicago case actually carries much more severe penalties than the New York case, but we’re gonna fight for….we know the evidence in that case, we’re prepared we could go to trial tomorrow.”
  • Kelly will be sentenced for the Brooklyn case on May 4th, 2022 and will still face charges in Cook County, Illinois and Minnesota.
