Be Careful! FDA Expands Hand Sanitizer List With Dangerous Ingredients

This coronavirus pandemic is stressful. It has us looking in stores to get every type of disinfectants. Stores are basically empty of hand sanitizers. But have you realized there are brands on the shelves that you have never heard of. With the high demand of hand sanitizers, companies have been in mass production to put things on the market. However, the FDA is warning us, once again, about the correct things to use. Back in June, the FDA warned us of a few hand sanitizing brands and told us to avoid them because they contained methanol, which, is harmful and not needed in hand sanitizers. According to NBC news, they have now expanded that list to include about 75 brands that are sold in stores all across the nation, such as Walmart, Costco and more. The FDA said some of these hand sanitizers that are labeled to contain ethyl alcohol, or ethanol, but have tested positive for methanol, or wood alcohol. If methanol is absorbed through the skin, it can cause blindness and hospitalizations, or death if ingested. The FDA is even trying to block certain sanitizers from entering into the U.S. For a full list of brands, check out FDA.
