Minneapolis City Council Wants to Disband the Police Department

Derek Chauvin will face a judge for the first time this morning over killing George Floyd. As the nation is still in an unrest over the social injustices, the City of Minneapolis is trying to disband the police department. There are some cities who have reduced funds in police departments, but according to TMZ, members of the Minneapolis City Council say they're overruling Mayor Jacob Frey and will commit to dismantling their police department and get rid of it completely. During protests, when asked if Frey would defund the police department, he basically said no. The announcement was made on Sunday with about nine out of thirteen members coming out in support of the idea, which gives them a majority that can't be vetoed by Mayor Frey. In the end, there won't be a traditional police department for the city when the change does happen, which, will not happen right away, but they are looking to have community-based safety.
