LeBron James slammed Drew Brees on Wednesday for his comments that taking a knee during the national anthem is disrespectful to the country and the flag.

The New Orleans Saints quarterback was asked about the possibility of the protests started by Colin Kaepernick returning when the NFL does in the wake of the killing of George Floyd and the protests that have followed.

Brees said, "I will never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America." He added that he thinks of his grandfathers who fought in World War 2 as he stands and sings the national anthem.

The Los Angeles Lakers star retweeted a clip of the Brees interview and wrote, "You literally still don’t understand why Kap was kneeling on one knee?? Has absolute nothing to do with the disrespect of [U.S. flag] and our soldiers (men and women) who keep our land free. My father-in-law was one of those men who fought as well for this country. I asked him question about it and thank him all the time for his commitment. He never found Kap peaceful protest offensive because he and I both know what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong!” (Los Angeles Times)
