1st Black Treasurer of Pennsylvania Town Denied Taking Office by Racists

Wow: 1st Black Treasurer of Pennsylvania Town Denied Taking Office by Racists

It is crazy that something like this could still happen in our own state! Antoinette Hodge was elected as the first black treasurer of Uniontown, PA. However, she has not been able to take office because of flat out racism. A councilman by the name of Martin Gatti allegedly blocked Hodges from obtaining an insurance bond, stating "this colored girl shouldn't sit as the treasurer for Uniontown". Thankfully, after some publicity, the bond was recently granted.
