Man Dies After Taco-Eating Contest At Baseball Game

This is certainly a very shocking and sad story — a man died this week in Fresno, CA after taking part in a taco eating competition at a minor league baseball game. The competition took place at Chukchansi Park, and the man was identified as 41-year old Dana Hutchings.

There was on-side medical staff, and they attended to the man once he collapsed, but he died shortly after being sent to the Community Regional Medical Center. CBS Sports reports that he likely died due to choking, but that there is no "official cause of death yet, and it could take up to a month to determine exactly what caused Hutchings' death."

Fresno Grizzlies president Derek Franks said, “We are devastated to learn that the fan that received medical attention following an event at Tuesday evening’s game has passed away. The Fresno Grizzlies extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to the family of Mr. Hutchings. The safety and security o our fans is our highest priority. We will work close with the local authorities and provide any helpful information that is requested.”

The World Taco Eating Championship at the same park was supposed also happen this weekend, but it has now been cancelled.
