Florida Woman Says Her Toilet Exploded After Lightning Strike

File this under “only in Florida” — a woman in Port Charlotte is thankful that she wasn’t in the room when a lightning strike ended up hitting a septic tank at her home, causing the toilet in her bathroom to EXPLODE!

CBS reports that the strike was strong, as the explosion caused a significant amount of damage to her home. The woman, Marylou Ward, says the blast “shattered the toilet in a hundred pieces, shattered the master bedroom window, destroyed the indoor plumbing along with the septic tank.” It’s a good thing that things weren’t worse — this sounds very scary already!

What’s even more crazy — she says that a plumber told her that what had happened was — the lightning hit the methane gases from …. Fecal matter … that was built up in the pipes.

The family says they are still finding pieces of broken decorations in the area, but luckily, no one was hurt.

Ward summed it up by saying, “I’m just glad none of us were on the toilet. That’s the main thing.”
