The newest name to join this list...Quinta Brunson is a Golden Globe winning West Philadelphia native who is the creator, executive producer, writer and star of the new ABC comedy Abbott Elementary...based on a school here in Philadelphia...which has just been renewed for its 4th season on ABC.
She is a graduate of Charter High School for Architecture and Design, and is slated to receive the prestigious Lew Klein award from Temple University on May 7thof this year. Brunson has won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, and Abbott Elementary won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe for Best Television Series Musical or Comedy.
Brunson herself just won the Emmy for best comedic actress in a series…the first African American actress to win the award since Isabel Sanford of the Jeffersons in 1981.
