Philly School District Delays Later Start Time for School Next Season

Before the kids get hyped, schools in Philadelphia won't see a big change next school year. It was discussed that students having better rest, would get them to have better day. With that, the idea was to have students start school at a later time to make sure they are well-rested. However, Philadelphia School District is postponing that plan. According to NBC 10, there is shortage of bus drivers and "some much needed stability...during these challenging times" were reasons cited by Philadelphia Superintendent William Hite. The initial plan was to have high school and middle school students start school at 9 a.m. for the 2022-2023 school year, but according to Hite, that will be delayed because of the bus driver shortage, which, is an issue everywhere. This would be difficult to support the shift for the 56 schools in the district. Hite did say school leaders who would like to move forward with a revised bell schedule for the fall can submit a proposal for consideration.
