MLB Moves the All-Star Game Out of Georgia Over Voting Rights

Sometimes it makes you wonder what is on people's mind. Just recently, Georgia changed their voting laws. This will definitely effect many Americans, especially black voters. According to the AP, Republican Gov. Brian Kemp makes numerous changes to how elections will be administered, including a new photo ID requirement for voting absentee by mail. The new law will, in particular, curtail ballot access for voters in booming urban and suburban counties, home to many Democrats. Basically, Georgia passed the elections bill to restrict voting by mail and it will have potential restrict voting access to people of color. Of course Donald Trump cried about voter fraud when President Joe Biden won the votes in Georgia, so naturally, this is what the Republicans seemed to believe as well. Meanwhile, MLB has decided to pull the 2021 All-Star Game and MLB draft from Atlanta following the announcement. As reported by ESPN, The MLB released a statement saying, "Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box. In 2020, MLB became the first professional sports league to join the non-partisan Civic Alliance to help build a future in which everyone participates in shaping the United States. We proudly used our platform to encourage baseball fans and communities throughout our country to perform their civic duty and actively participate in the voting process. Fair access to voting continues to have our game's unwavering support." It sounds like a lot of corporate business could hit the state pretty hard after this decision.
