I am sick and tired of turning to the news and hearing of someone, Black, being gunned down by police when things could have been handled another way. The emotions and anger! On Monday in West Philly, police shot and killed Walter Wallace, 27-years-old. According to 6 ABC, officers responded to a domestic call along the 6100 block of Locust Street. That's when they saw Walter with a knife. It was caught on video, which, went viral. But in the video, you see Walter's mom trying to deescalate the situation and begging her son to put the knife down while the police are surrounding him. But when the cops yelled at him to drop the knife, two cops fired their shots at him. You mean to tell me, they couldn't have used a taser, or a gun with rubber bullets, or something less lethal? And that's why the neighborhood is pissed. What happened to the whole idea of finding other ways for cops to deal with people? What happened to that training? The streets of Philadelphia went into a rage. There were riots and about 30 cops who were injured during them. There is looting, there is frustration. How many times do we have to sit back and watch the most lethal force used on our black men, but it's not used on others who blatantly walk into churches, shooting and killing and people, or others who are pulled over by police and try to fight them, only to get slaps on the wrist? It's so emotionally draining.
