Philly Sanitation Workers Don't Have Enough PPE Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

If you're in the Philly area and realized trash is piling up, it's because a lot of sanitation workers are scaling back because of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to 6 ABC the workers say they don't have the proper personal protection equipment, also called PPE. The union says about a dozen of workers are sick or quarantined and it's slowing down the garbage pickup. One union member even displayed a mask that he said the city gave to the workers and it was unacceptable. These are our essential workers. The streets department is asking people to put out trash one day later than normal pickup for the week of July 20 and is warning people it may take longer than that for it to be picked up. But that is also where people are complaining about the smell of the trash in the neighborhoods. The sanitation workers are blaming it on the city because they don't have the proper gear to protect the workers from contracting the virus.
