Frank Rizzo Statue Officially Removed Overnight

During the protests here in Philly, you may have seen the Frank Rizzo statue in Center City, being vandalized. When the statue first went up of the former mayor and police commissioner, it made many people upset. Many people in Philly felt the statue represented bigotry, racism and hate and even police brutality against the black community. Although we've heard Mayor Jim Kenney say the statue would come down in the past, after the unrest of the city, the mayor kept his word. According to NBC 10, Mayor Kenney signed an executive order Tuesday ordering the statue's immediate removal and just like that, the statue no longer stands. Mayor Kenney said in a statement, "The statue is a deplorable monument to racism, bigotry, and police brutality for members of the Black community, the LGBTQ community, and many others. The treatment of these communities under Mr. Rizzo’s leadership was among the worst periods in Philadelphia’s history." It's not known where the statue was taken.
